When it came time to commission official character art for Sparrow, Saga, and Jynx, there was never any question who I'd ask. My friend Casie Starr is a talented artist, and she was the obvious choice. Not only has she drawn several of my characters in the past for our D&D games, but given how these characters grew out of our shared stories and world I feel it only makes sense for her to leave a mark somewhere within this story.
She recently sent me the finalized artwork for Saga, and she's beautiful. She nailed her! Every little detail is there, from the tattoos and winged ear cuff to that hardened yet tender demeanor I always pictured her having.
She even sent me a version without the face paint so I can play around with different looks if I want. :3
It's so wild and surreal for me to see her in a living space. With actual shape and color and all the vivid parts of her that have been imaginary for me for so long. I didn't expect to be emotional about it, but it's all becoming so real for me in a way that makes me just so happy.
I can't wait to see how Sparrow and Jynx turn out. And if you're curious what each of Saga's tattoos means—or what's up with that winged ear cuff—you'll just have to wait for the book to come out. :)
